For 12 years I was a media producer/director in the marketing communications department of the world’s largest manufacturer of hospital furniture and accessories.
In this capacity I produced:
- Corporate Communications
- Merchandising
- Instructional
- Sales Incentive and
- User Training Materials,
…primarily for video and DVD distribution. This company’s products include beds for medical/surgical, critical care, and labor and delivery; transport and procedural stretchers; architectural headwalls and medical gas delivery systems; nurse call communication systems; and therapy surfaces for the prevention and treatment of skin breakdown and pneumonia. This company markets products to the hospital as well as the nursing home and home care environments.
It required a tremendous effort to market and sell these extremely expensive products. In this position I traveled to over 100 hospitals in over 30 states. I interviewed healthcare personnel including executive level, nurse management, environmental, purchasing, floor staff, maintenance, and others. The result was several dozen testimonial videos built around “Would I recommend this product?” Pretty standard fare, but which offered the opportunity to learn about issues and circumstances that affected their daily lives, and their buying habits…issues such as rising acuity, tightening reimbursement, patient and caregiver safety and so on.
This relationship now continues on a freelance basis, so my healthcare industry knowledge remains up to the minute. I would love to put this knowledge to use for your next communication project.
